Diethylpropion hydrochloride is a controlled substance (USA Schedule IV). It is an appetite depressant that produces less central nervous system disturbance than most drugs in this therapeutic category. It is also considered to be among the safest for patients with hypertension. However, this molecule is a stimulant drug of the phenethylamine, amphetamine, and cathinone chemical classes.
