Background:

Metronidazole-d₄is intended for use as an internal standard for the quantification of metronidazole by GC- or LC-MS. Metronidazole is an antibiotic that has activity against anaerobic bacteria and protozoa includingT. vaginalis, E. histolytica, G. lamblia, C. difficile, andH. pylori.¹It reduces the growth ofE. coli in vitro(MIC = 128 mg/L under anaerobic conditions).²In vivo, metronidazole reduces viable counts ofB. fragilisin a rabbit model of infection. Formulations containing metronidazole have been used in the treatment of various infections includingH. pyloriandC. difficile.
