Gemcabene is a lipid-lowering small molecule to be used as an adjunctive therapy to reduce LDL-C, hsCRP, and TGs. Gemcabene is a first-in-class orally bioavailable drug candidate with pleiotropic properties similar to statins as shown in trials to date. Gemcabene has a unique mechanism of action that (1) blocking the production of hepatic triglyceride and cholesterol synthesis; and (2) enhancing the clearance of VLDL by decreasing ApoC-III.
