Sanggenone C is a naturally occuring prenylated flavonoid isolated from the root bark of Morus cathayana. It inhibits tumor cellular proteasomal activity and cell viability. Sanggenon C also has protective effects against cardiac hypertrophy and fibrosis via suppression of the calcineurin/NFAT2 pathway. Sanggenon C inhibits inducible nitric oxide synthase expression in RAW264.7 cells, and tumor necrosis factor-α-stimulated cell adhesion and vascular cell adhesion molecule-1 expression, by suppressing NF-κB activity.
