Zinostatin (Neocarcinostatin; Vinostatin) is a novel and potent cytotoxic enediyne and DNA alkylator that alkylates DNA and RNA like mitomycin. It is isolated from the bacterium Streptomyces carzinostaticus with anticancer and antibiotic activity. As a DNA-damaging, anti-tumor antibiotic, it recognizes double-stranded DNA bulge and induces DNA double strand breaks (DSBs).
